Cadillac Anpao

As autonomy reshapes the role of the vehicle, the occupant environment has to evolve into a space that connects to the user, beyond the act of driving. This research project explored two main themes centred around this transition. The first was the future Cadillac design language, focused on an expression of ‘Lightweight Luxury’. Reducing visual complexity and component count was key, whilst also creating a broader more inclusive physical gesture round the cabin. The second was centred on developing an emotional connection within this third space, building a new relationship to user. One that celebrates time spent together, the route travelled and builds a deeper, atmospheric connection with the world outside.

Visual reduction and clean volumes designed to harmonise with light, help craft and echo natural ambience as well as seamlessly integrate artificial illumination. A spectrum of environmental conditions can be translated into distinct lightscapes, as the expansive surfaces coupled with integrated haptics and a curated sound stage help the entire cabin become an immersive canvas. Digital modelling and visualisation explored how light reacts with the surface concept whilst storyboarding various user journeys helped establish a coherent relationship between the physical space, a dynamic digital layer and external environment. The work challenges the assumption that future mobility must feel technologically driven. Instead, autonomy here becomes quieter and more human. Technology recedes below the surface, while a quite layer of intelligence proposes a new kind of luxury. Subtle, thoughtful and uniquely tailored to each user, bespoke to each journey.
